The arborist came out early and said the job was beyond him and he'd have to get another arborist to come help to trim the live oak. He told me the water oaks tend to get hollow inside when they get very old but that unless they get a hole to the outside somewhere, its impossible to tell and the tree can appear healthy until it just keels over.

The guy from Hertz showed up 15 minutes late, which gave me a bit more time to clear stuff out of the Expedition but I still didn't get everything I wanted out and my sister was in a hurry to get home to start cleaning up before we lost daylight. Then my brother called and needed a ride home because his boss realized he was in overtime hours and they didn't want to pay him overtime so he was being sent home (after like 30 minutes at work). He did clean some stuff out of the car but couldn't find certain things.

My sister and I cleaned up outside until dark. My brother helped with some heavy stuff. Then it was off to the store. I spotted a friend some $ to buy some parts to fix his truck (he normally takes out payday loans but we've agreed to let him borrow and pay us back when he gets paid so he won't have to pay the interest-- and he always pays us back). One of the new parts was cracked so he has to return it in the morning. My brother watched the friend's kids while I took the friend to the store. Then I watched the kids while my friend worked on his truck. I had an overwhelming urge to get a hysterectomy after that.

My brother did his laundry at our friend's house but it was taking forever. He washed the same pullover 3 times. Then we hit the store, grabbed some pizza, ate, and headed home so I could feed my mother.

Did I mention the people who were supposed to come pick up the CR-V didn't show up? They called about 25 minutes after they were supposed to arrive and said they were going to pick it up the next day. So I got woken up by a phone call this morning saying they were coming to pick it up. I wanted to tell them to wait until the afternoon because it pissed me off that they didn't stick to the arranged time (and its warmer in the afternoon). So I had to go out and finish clearing stuff out of the car-- as much as I could get to. It was not easy with all of the broken glass and my brother left a ton of trash in there. The jerk from the towing company (same one that refused to take insurance info and demanded money at 2am) said he thinks the car is totaled. But the shop where he works charges double what other places charge. I'm hoping it can still be fixed.

Anyway, the cold temperatures outside made my nose run and gave me a headache so I'm going to rest and hope it clears up. I'll have to call the body shop later and ask them if they think the CR-V can be fixed. I really don't want to replace two vehicles. Then it will mean we will have less of a window for buying because rentals are expensive. Although, I think since its two cars, we might be able to rent one for 20 days and then rent for 20 more for the second vehicle. Hertz makes people rent for 20 days minimum-- or at least pay up front for that long.

I'll admit to my ignorance. What is that?

Also, yesterday we cleaned up debris outside, cleaned up some of the hallway where my brother dumped his laundry and a ton of trash, took stuff to Goodwill, ate at Texas Roadhouse as a treat for my sister since she's leaving tomorrow, and then I got mothball packets to put in the kitchen cabinets to make repel the mice.

I just uploaded the video of my friend cutting down the remains of the tree and his son knocked it over with the log hog.

So, what does one do with the huge stump still in the ground? How about carving out the inside of it and making a really cool outdoor bathtub or water trough for the animals?

It's a temperature control. Nothing special.

My brother wants to burn it, but it has a cool little ecosystem on the inside. I'll have to link that video in a moment. It's also right near a PVC water line and I'm afraid it will melt the line. I joked that I wanted to put an umbrella in the middle and use it as a picnic table.

The bad news today is that the car place said the CR-V might be totaled, but they have to tally it up. The good news is, we are getting more for the Expedition than I'd previously thought. One of my friends wants to know how much he'd have to pay to get the CR-V as salvage if we can't get it fixed.

The arborist told my neighbor that it might be cheaper to move the house than to cut the tree-- I know he was exaggerating. Although, I would consider it if I didn't think the house would fall apart while being moved.

Here's the video of the stump and inside it. It looks like a cool cave. My sister suggested getting some action figures and taking pictures of them inside there and pretending its some sort of alien cave or something.

I vote fill it with wax, put a wick in it, then light it. I bet it would last forever?

That would be a hell of a lot of wax. LOL.

And now the car shopping "fun" begins. I've already noted the bluebook and "fair market" values of cars from edmunds.com and kbb.com and just need to hope that what I want will become available in my area soon. I read that toward the end of the month, car salesmen get more desperate to make sales and are more likely to make deals-- but I also was told that a study showed that the only way women get as good deals on car prices as men is if they flirt-- and I've never flirted with anyone so it would probably be catastrophically awkward. LOL. So, I'm going to bring a male friend who knows a lot about cars along to see if that helps. I'm thinking of doing the writing the number on the card and telling the guy to call me when he'll come down on the price.

put some treated 2x6's over he stump, use it as a table

I like that idea! And I could still put an umbrella in the middle. :)

I hate to see so much oak wasted.

My friend called back to say the arborist wants $3800 to cut the other tree back to the trunk. My friend will clear the debris for free after that. Considering the other estimate I got for trimming was around $10k, I think it sounds pretty good. The insurance company said they will give more than I expected for the Expedition (almost double what I expected) so that will give us some more to play with on buying a new vehicle.

It's still going to suck, but it could be worse. Too bad it probably wouldn't help to have my male friend flirt with the salesman. Maybe we could bring his girlfriend and she could flirt with the salesman.

I use to feed my horses the #606 with molasses in it, but I had to get them out afterwards to burn off that excess energy.

I only used it as a supplemental on top of their timothy hay, but tried to only use it before a long ride.

I fed both the horse and cows 12% Sweet Feed as a supplement to the hay. I need to go buy some-- we're out and the cows have been complaining. They just don't find the hay as appealing.

I'm trying to remember what kind of hay we got for the horses and cows. I'm thinking bahaya or something. We fed Timothy Hay to the wild rabbit I rescued a few years ago. No idea what the current hay is-- I just know the neighbor brought over a huge round bail and it was $35. I'm so glad that it turns out most of my neighbors are nice. We gave our trailer (for towing the tractor) to the guy who bought our tractor and cut up the tree. We no longer have a vehicle with a towing kit and none of us really knew how to tow it anyway. All of the wheels are dryrotted and the wood needs to be replaced, but the frame is still good, but the guy was ecstatic to get it.

In other news, we found a truck we think we want over in Houston. We sent an e-mail to the seller via cars.com and are waiting to hear back on whether or not we should drive out there to see it. There are a lot of car places over there and my cousin lives in Houston so we could go visit and check things out. I think its about a 2 hour drive to Houston. Need to time it right to avoid rush hour because it can take 2 hours just to get from one side of Houston to another in rush hour-- I found that out the hard way. We also looked up the same vehicle (same vin and everything on Truecar and it was listed for a lower "up front" price).

Here's a question, if we just outright buy the car, should we be able to get a lower price? Or maybe talk them in to putting running boards on it or something? We plan to get running boards eventually to make it easier for Mom to get in and out of the vehicle. We also want to get a tonneau cover that won't be too expensive, won't interfere with opening the trunk in the pickup bed (it has a trunk for the spare tire and groceries in the bed)

I'll have to measure to see if it can fit a cooler. Its not a work truck by any means, but it will work for hauling trash and groceries (hopefully not both at the same time).

I should probably discuss this on the garage forums instead. LOL.

Havasu, that looks delicious!! I bet a few of those would fit nicely in my (hopefully) new truck.

Phishfood, that really sucks! I hope it clears up quickly. I despise stinging insects.
