That would be a valid test if not for the fact that his previous dishwasher had the same issue.

I’d still check to see if the check valve was operating.
What doesn’t make sense is that the dishes would stink after they finished washing and drying but standing in front of his disposal he didn’t smell anything foul.
How long did the guy leave the dishes sitting before he checked for a smell ?

I agree, and why I have taken interest in this thread. I'm sure others who are not yet members are also watching and hoping for a confirmed solution. I myself would start over, and follow the dishwasher discharge hose to confirmed it is a straight loop, and also check for any leaks while I am back there, but I know removing a D/W can be a bear pulling out, scratching floors, etc.
