    It's a Moen valve, Legend or Chateau, and all parts are available at your nearest big box store. Cartridge,clip,trim, spout, shower arm and head. In your choice of decorator colors. Plus , no annoying balancer or restricted flow.

    The water alone in a K-5540 would weigh 188 lbs. in a K-5950 Cast Iron sink the total would be 230 lbs. And thats without somebody pressing down to scrub a pot.

    Metal P-Trap

    You not only have to remove the sink, you will undoubtably have to cut the pop-up drain assembly off with a Sawzall. Replace with a Chrome plated one of decent quality. Price Pfister at least. That P trap is worth saving. What vintage is it? Look for date stamp on the sink.

    Looks like a Price Pfister but acts like a Kohler... Try unscrewing between the brass rings and the tapered part. Many a Kohler comes apart just like that. Two pieces create a sandwich around the shaft screw.

    How you gonna get AIR pressure inside your water pipe? Yes, fluids don't compress or expand, until they change to a solid. In this case water to ice. Running a drip merely keeps the water from freezing.

    No mystery...It's a pressure relief valve. Maybe a combination temperature and pressure relief valve. Not the best location for temp. but ok for pressure.

    Help to identify what is needed to attached to 1960s era P-Trap setup

    Unscrew the chrome 90 from the 1 1/2" pipe and just install a new p-trap. Plastic preferred. Although you might want to get a new metal slip joint nut and seal like the one in your pic.

    Or you could just replace the lift up diverter. Unscrew the knob ( #11 in diagram above) and push the #10 thingy out . There is or should be a rubber washer, (#s 13 and 14) which seals off spout and sends water to showerhead. repair or replace. BTW, I once did a repair on a similar situation...
