Isn't the pommel traditionally used as a balance? I know you're not at the point where you want to start balancing yet, but it seems like that would be a cool start.

From what I know (which is limited), the pommel was traditionally a plate that the tang poked through, and then was peened against to hold the handle tight up on the tang and blade...

I got a 3/4" nut that I want to try and turn down into the top spacer and then a big flat fender washer that I intend to heat and pound into a domed end cap.

I forged this one out of a small piece of 5160 steel... :) Its gonna get a curved cherry handle with some copper wire wrap to finish it off.

I have been lurking on his progress on another site and I believe he used a Bic lighter, three matches and a tub of elbow grease.
 
Rosebud on a cutting torch, 5lb hammer and a frame machine as an anvil...

Chris, are you still around jf at all?
 
As much as I am here just more lurking than posting I guess. I chip in when needed but I dont like to make to many useless posts over there.
