Why wouldn't plumbing for new attic renovation go through an old chimney to the basement? It would be closed after.

I can't find much of anything about plumbing from an attic, through an old chimney, to the basement.
Why?

It seems like a perfect path.

My chimney is not closed yet (roofers coming). Before, wouldn't it just be starting on the roof. Then add 20 or 10' lengths of PVC and pex, connecting them before lowering into the hole?

There are two chimeny holes 9x11".

What is it your looking to put in there, a vent. If it is no longer used as a chimney and just want to use as a pipe chase I believe that is fine. The issue i could see is access if something were to leak.

Plumbing for shower, bathroom sink and kitchen sink up in the attic.
I figure flexible PEX could be put in later (e.g., hot and cold water lines).

I'm thinking the drain and vent plumbing need to be solid.
