For the past month, I have experienced pipe rattling all hours of the day. Sometimes it wakes me up in the middle of the night. When the problem started the sound lasted for just a few seconds, making it hard to identify what it was or record it to share with building management. Now it goes on for 30 seconds or more and I captured a few recordings and shared them with management and maintenance. They said they have no idea what it could be and have shown zero interest in investigating the issue. I reached out to my neighbors and the tenet below me is experiencing the same problem. The tenet above me has not noticed any noise but her apartment flooded before I moved into my place.

I'm including audio recordings. They were recorded by my kitchen sink and oven. On the other side of that wall is my bathroom and I can also hear the noise from there. If you have any idea what could be causing this PLEASE let me know. Unfortunately, I'm stuck here until March 2022.

The first one was recorded just a few minutes ago. It's been happening a lot today.

How many stories is your bld, is the water pumped thru the system is there regular maintenance,on this system
If it's a pumped system there will pressure balancing valves incorporated on that system.
They stop large pressure fluctuations, we had some thing like this at work in a large dorm.
I put a pressure gauge on a janitors faucet on the upper floors and watched the gauge, there were 20-40 psi pressure swings, we ,along with a pump company fixed it

sounds like loose pipes to me,are you in a multi floor building and are there other tenants that could be using the water in the middle of the night?

You need to open you vanity and grab onto a pipe when you hear the noise. You should feel vibration. If your neighbor has a flood it's possible someone replaced a pipe and didn't strap it down. That is an odd swinging type of noise.

Thank you for your responses. My building is 10 stories and I live on the 3rd floor. At the moment we have one maintenance worker and I doubt he is keeping up with everything. I know they replaced pipes on the other side of the building in March/April. I will ask the tenant above me if pipes were replaced after her flood and also check for a vibration. Other than the banging pipes, the building is quiet at night. Sometimes I can hear my neighbors run water in the evening and it doesn’t shake the pipes.
