So for a week i’ve been trying to find the new style shower diverter for this old one. I need the same tip but with the external threaded for the handle type fittings (old crystal knob stuff threaded internally with threaded pipe). I’ve gone to 3 local places and looked through the valve books and am losing hope. Is it possible that i can’t go to new style fittings? I’m guessing this valve is a 1960 american standard or similar. Was able to find the new style H and C valves pictured next but like i said no diverter!!!

OMG Twowaxhack!!!!! No one could tell me what this was and you just called it out like nothing!!! My wife just asked what we can do for you???!!! Ok i haven’t put the Pfister valves in was waiting to see if we can use these “new style” fittings that need valves with the external threads? Do you know if this old track line can be updated to this new style pfister kit attached? Would require the same type valve bases but with the added external threads and shorter stems with B-6 splines i think. Or does this track only use a very limited style fittings without busting into the tile and changing the whole fitting assembly? WE are SO thankful!!!

Typically nothing will fit but specific trim pieces outside the wall that’s built for Trac Line.

You would need to replace the entire valve in the wall to get a different look.

The kit I posted is pretty much all you’ll find for that old valve.

That’s been my gut feeling this whole time. No wonder you guys make the big bucks! Thank you sir for giving me closure on this week of plumbing hell! :)

One last question…if the cold on the shower barely has output and the sink right next to it does….does this mean there is a clog inside the wall fixture or at the junction where they meet? Is there anyway to use a small snake to clear a supply line with the cold shower valve and seat out? I took the cold valve out and the output was still very low

American Standard Trac line is a pretty common faucet in my area. I think it was being installed in the mid 50’s- early 60’s.

Any thoughts/tricks on freeing the cold line up some more in the shower. I’ll have a few days until the valves come in and can go get a small snake if needed. Not sure there is any hope short of tearing into the old pipes in the wall.

Before I gave up on my three handle faucet setup, I rebuilt it with a Sterling rebuild kit. It worked but I was getting temperature variations. It doesn’t really matter now because a replaced it with a Moen single handle pressure balance valve.

I wonder if my old three handle valve really wasn’t a Sterling?

Do you have galvanized supply pipes? I ended up replacing a lot of mine because they were so corroded and clogged.

No equipment made for snaking of small water piping. If you have galv. steel, it is clogged. Backflushing is not a permanent solution but, when I was younger we tried it a few times. Waste of time for a professional bc results are rarely good and never last bc particles are floating around randomly flaking.

Thank you for the response. i guess we will be getting under the house eventually and changing everything to PEX

Ok guys the trac line still didn’t work. 3rd fitting set that hasn’t. The valves and seats were spot on but the fittings wouldn’t spin flush to the wall. Is there any way to make this work? Attached is the trac line base sticking out from the wall and also a pic of the old stuff we are trying to replace. Two thoughts are either cut the threaded insert pipe shorter (but would make very long valves sticking out) or fit some sort of trim base under the trac line base. this sucks!!!

The old stuff looks like this picture…the trac line valves and seats were identical to what came out tho. This kit looks to have the same Hot and Cold stems as the trac line. I noticed the splines were slightly different from what came out
