Wash machine stand pipe drain size requirement

Wash machine in 54 year old house currently drains into deep sink. Would like to add stand pipe in wall instead as we renovate laundry room. Was going to do this similar to the attached image. However I am not sure if the drain that goes down into the floor, which at point is a slab and not...

What kind of regulator and how to remove?

Shower is dripping continually and also is leaking in the wall.. and downstairs. :) How does the 'grey' part with the teeth that the clear handle attaches to get removed? And what brand is this? House is rather old. I'm guessing there is some sort of seal thing inside that is no longer...

    Polybutylene dangers

We are looking for a house in Central Florida... Debary/Deltona area and have discovered that many of those we are looking at were built with PB pipe. In fact we withdrew one offer on a house as it showed up in the disclosures. Of course all of these homes are built on slabs so I can imagine...

Pressure testing with air versus water

Have finally gotten back to work on the bathroom project and am about ready to finish gluing and screwing down sub0floor as well as starting to put up some of the backer-board for the shower. Up to this point, I have only been testing the copper supply tubes with air from my compressor and am...

    Tub faucet brand?

Greetings all... Sorry I haven't been around lately but there's just been too much going on lately dealing with my mom's house... Getting ready to hopefully install acrylic surround over tub and was wondering just what the brand is for the tub faucet. If we can replace the guts and top...

    Copper pinhole leak.

Replacing the bad copper is clearly solution, but in this case isn't most convenient. Occupant of house recently passed and in all likelihood the state will have to take house as owner is in nursing home and never took proper legal action to avoid that. Thus putting a lot of effort into...

    Which brand?

Yes, I am still alive and trapped in the bathroom from you-know-where... I getting ready to order faucets for shower and roman tub and am quite bewildered. We want reliable quality and easily serviceable in the future if needed, but I'd like to do that without paying more than necessary...

    Shower channel drain?

Anyone have much experience installing a channel drain in a shower or anywhere else for that matter? I know that they can be very pricey, but I have seen some that aren't super expensive. It looks like using one would make the process of making a mud shower base and tiling it a lot...

    "Senior" member

I haven't been a member of this forum all that long and just barely have 100 posts. How the heck did an amateur like moi become a "senior" member? AARP might want my money cuz they're greedy... but 53 doesn't make me a "Senior" does it? Just wondering.... :p Old AJay

    Preventing leaks copper joints

Yesterday I started repiping the copper for the "bathroom from hell". I have done a fair amount of soldering of copper pipe so am generally able to accomplish the task without getting any leaks. But also in the past I've only had to do a few connections, reducing the chance for screw-ups...

    Window question

Since this is not about plumbing, I'll try asking this here. Though it is about the bathroom which the other threads have been about. Along this 8 ft wall (where the tub will go) we are going to install a 6 ft window: This room is upstairs at at the corner of part of the roof. To the...

    Bevel PVC before gluing?

I can see the value of removing any sharp burrs inside PVC before gluing, but is there any need to actually bevel the inside edge (on the edge facing upstream)? It was recommended to me by the master plumber at Lowe's and it isn't a big deal to do as I have a Dremel that can do it pretty quick.

    Shower pan instructions

These instruction look pretty detailed: Building a shower pan with pre-sloped mortar bed, liner and curb. Do they look good? I won't be start this chapter of the saga until after the supply lines are in, which won't be until after the windows go in (next stage). Where does one get...

Copper or PVC or CPVC, oh my!

Got to repipe the hot and cold supply for "The Great Bathroom Adventure" and while I was going to replace the copper with copper, I'm not so sure. Have found enough pinhole leaks in basement to realize it should all be replaced. But a lot of existing piping is perpendicular to joists, there...

    Long screwdriver down the drain

This weekend when removing an old 2" copper vent the screwdriver that was wedged up between the pipe and 2x4 to hold it in place fell down and can be found nowhere. I have searched the bathroom but can find it now where. It was directly over the main 3" drain for the bathroom though was...

Shower valves and head on different walls?

Going to open a new thread on this one even though its the same project.. just a different chapter. My "better half" wants to have the shower installed so that the valves/knobs for the shower are on one wall and the head on another. AND rather than a shower "door" (sliding or swinging) just a...

    Converting sink drain to tub

We are completely remodeling a bathroom but are trying to use as much as the existing copper DVW piping as possible. Because the sink doesn't have a ptrap, this will be added and placed in the wall. Here's a link to a crummy pic...

    Shower drain clearance

Greetings. I tried searching for the answer to my question but could not find anything. I'm in process of a complete bathroom remodel having already ripped out old shower, tile, concrete, etc and am down to subfloor with some removed. There was a closet in this bathroom that is now gone to...
