Hi
So I'm dealing with a shallow well jet pump. It froze and cracked the casing (not the motor side) with some cold weather we had a couple weeks ago... We JB Welded the crack put it back on but a pipe was busted inside the house so had to shut off... It also still had a small crack in the back so we figured why not fix it also while fixing the pipe inside the house.... Fast forward 2days... We put it back on and turned it on to prime it and it just hummed as if the motor was locked up but I knew better because it was running fine 2 days prior... So I got curious and took the pump and housing apart from each other and turned out and my suspicions were confirmed.... The motor ran fine...
What could be the issue with it not spinning when the 2 pcs are assembled....

The motor turns the pump impeller inside the pump housing which is what froze and broke. The pump itself has bearings, seals and clearances between the impeller and the housing. When the pump froze and cracked, it likely messed up the alignment of the pump, or perhaps some JB Weld was pushed into areas that shouldn't be glued. You need a new pump.

Actually to my surprise ... I went over this morning and put it back together and it worked! I must've tightened it down too tight when I assembled it after putting the jb weld on for the 2nd time... Was actually easier to prime than it has ever been

JB Weld always surprises me! Lol! But start saving up for a new pump.
