Toilet supply valve question. This valve started leaking after a shut off to replace a part in the toilet. Slow drip from the stem. Generally I'd tighten the packing nut a bit but this doesn't seem to have one. The nut the stem goes through is male threaded. I tightened that a but and it helped but also made the handle hard to turn. What am I dealing with here?

Well that's what I tightened but I'm used to seeing female threaded nuts where packing material compresses around the stem as you tighten. Where's the packing material here?

Turn the valve off, remove the packing nut counterclockwise and slide toward the handle.

wrap packing clockwise and push into valve. Tighten packing nut. Turn on valve snd snug packing nut again.

Or replace the entire valve.
