I just purchased a house (built in 1957) that has a cold water supply line and a drain line coming up through the slab in the garage. The drain line has a toilet flange on it, and the copper supply line is capped. I want to put a washing machine in. I'm assuming this is possible, but my plumbing knowledge is limited. Can I connect a drain line to the toilet flange with some type of coupling? I'm assuming I need a p-trap in the drain line, but does it need to be vented as well? Not too concerned with water supply as this should be the easy part. Thanks.

The line must be trapped and vented. If there is plumbing for a toilet there should be a vent for it near by. Depending on were it is the better option may be to connect the laundry drain to it. A picture would help in knowing if this is feasible.
