My powder room toilet is bubbling and the plumber told me it is probably an obstruction and not a vent problem. It gets obstructed with little use, and when augered, the plumber only finds a minor amount of debris. I don't believe its a drainage pipe problem. My toilet and sink have no vents. They go straight into iron plumbing embedded in concrete foundation. Its an old house that has been remodeled, and we are not even sure there is an outside cleanout trap.

So, is ventless an option? I can't find a toilet that is self-venting, searches only seem to find the macerating upflush units.

Did this toilet ever work for you?

My understanding is no vent - no work.

What happens if you use a 1-2 gallon bucket of water and pour it directly down the bowl of the toilet?

My guess, is homeowner remodel with out permits.

I am not aware of a toilet which is unvented.

If you pour a bucket of water down, what happens?

What floor, and are there floors above?
