I'm replacing the tub drain because the chrome is chipped. I have already removed it from the tub. It is similar to this:

To find what size replacement that I need, do I go by the outside diameter or the inside diameter of the threaded part? The old one is 1.5" inside and 1.75" outside diameter. Would the one in the above link work?

1-1/2 " is what you need. There made in 1-1/2" and 1". The standard is 1-1/2". There is a after market part that is 1" and comes with a bushing so it will fit both the 1" and the 1-1/2".

Thank you for the response.

I thought 1-1/2" was be the right size but just wanted to be sure.
