Toilet randomly leaking from flush handle

The toilet in my ensuite washroom has been randomly leaking. After a lot of investigating, the source seems to be the flush handle. I checked the water level before and after flushing and it’s well below the handle. But checking on it a few hours later, the water level does seem to be rising. It could be just a coincidence but the leaks seem to happen more frequently after heavy rainfall. Not necessarily during the rainfall. But the leaks do seem to happen with more frequency even several hours after the rain has stopped.

Anyone know what might be going on and can advise?

Best to show pictures of inside the toilet but rain wouldn't have anything to do with it sounds like your fill valve is failing, over filling sometimes pictures are best thou
