Toilet bowl fumes

Remodeled my master bath and toilet drain sat with rag inside for two weeks with no odor. Installed new Kohler two piece toilet and gas fumes coming from toilet bowl and not from bottom of toilet. Replaced wax seal anyway, problem remained, even replaced a third time and fumes are awful in the toilet bowl intself but no fumes around floor. Never had an issue like this before

? Just blame the toilet.

Have you turned the water on to the toilet? If there is no water in the bowl it is open to the sewer line.

Water has been on and toilet flushed multiple times. I even sealed around bottom of toilet with a rope of plumbers putty as well as sealing the mounting bolts.
