Trying to remove Hot Seat and Cold Seat from Symmons Temptrol Shower/Tub control. I have the tools provided by Symmons but the Cold Seat won't budge. I'm afraid to use too much pressure to remove it. The unit has been in for 25+ years. Any suggestions on how to free the seats?

I usually insert the large square seat tool and give a good tap on the end.
( Maybe not - The tap on the end helps a tapered seat tools to bite into seat but this one is not tapered. )
Then use an adjustable wrench on the seat tool at maybe 9 or 10 0'clock.
hold it firm and smack the end of the adjustable wrench. Not to hard just enough to jolt the seat free. It's the quick jolt that pops it loose and not the torque of just trying to unscrew it.

Those tiny little notches don't give much for the square tool to grab but you would have to scrap the brass from one notch to the other and that's probably unlikely.
