Recently moved into a new (well old, house).
There is a primary sump pump running off AC... and a backup secondary sump pump that runs off of a car battery. Each has its own discharge pipe and check valve, which feeds into the main discharge.
Still getting used to a "real" basement.. I don't have a feel for how often a sump pump should run. However, the other day.. it was cycling quite a bit. I put my ear to secondary check valve and could hear water running through it while both pumps were off.
I replaced this check valve... but the issue persisted. I went outside to check where pipe was discharging and it was essentially buried below a puddle.. so I dug a bit of a rut for the water to run into the yard.
I'm now waiting for the issue to pop up again... the issue is intermittent, but when I find it.. I typically run the secondary pump for a few seconds and the problem resolves until next time.
Any thoughts on what I can do to prevent recurrences?
