Hello,

Our powder room sink drain flange (I think that’s the term) cracked and a piece has come off (see pics). It doesn’t cause any leakage but it’s an absolute eyesore.

It seems to replace this piece I need to redo the entire drain pipe since it’s all connected. The issue is that it’s a very tight space (about 5 inches between the wall and fixture) and I’m having issues accessing the drain pipe itself, let alone doing the actual change with unscrewing everything and rescrewing and sealing the new drain pipe, flange, lift rod, etc into place.

Any advice for a novice at DIY sink stuff? I’d have no issues if this was in our main bathroom where you can open the cabinet doors and fully access the drain, but in this tight space I’m wondering how to go about this project. Pics are attached and thank you in advance!

You will have to take the sink off the wall and remove and reinstall the pop up drain assembly that way,or you could try to remove the pedestal and brace the sink with 2×4's

Turn off stops under sink ( push/ pull I believe) . Turn on faucet to make sure stops turn water off. If not turn off main water supply. Use a basin wrench to un -do water supply lines under faucet. Remove p trap ( put bucket under in case you spill). Remove two ( probably toggle) bolts under sink top. Remove sink top. Replace pop up assy. Reverse instructions to re- install. You will probably have to get new toggle bolts because the toggle nuts will drop down behind the wall. Careful when removing top, it may be caulked( or glued) to the pedestal base.
