Right at the point where the temperature is comfortable, there is a heavy vibration in the pipes. If I set it to cold or to hot it's fine, but not in the middle.

It's a single handle - not two handles. Stand-up shower.

Is this something I can fix myself?

What kind of faucet? Delta? Moen? Could be worn out o-rings or the pipes could need hammer arresters pics would help as well galvanized lines? Copper? Alot of could be's.

I'm pretty sure the pipes are copper. I've looked via an access panel in the ceiling when poking around up there for the exhaust fan but will confirm.

your copper lines are probably coming up the wall from slab to feed shower. Make sure all your angle stops to all your fixtures are open all the way. A half closed valve can cause banging of pipes also if pressure is to high but it could just be the cartridge
