Sewer Smells

Hi everyone. I'm a DIYer by necessity, however I do enjoy it and I am learning as I go. Here's the problem(s). My daughter's house is having major sewer smell issues. The whole plumbing system is...well...unusual (I think). It's a small house w/one toilet, sink, tub and kitchen sink upstairs and a washing machine downstairs. The whole system is vented using a 1 1/2 pipe out through the wall and up near the roofline. Please note that our small town allows DIY plumbing on existing buildings. I'd like to rip everything out and start from scratch (if necessary). If I upload a drawing of the system, could someone help me plan it right? Many thanks.
