I just purchased a house 2 weeks ago and the sewage pump that is for the basement bathroom has stopped working:
1. It's a 1/3 hp Stevens model S7000 (can't find that this is made anymore)
2. The lift is 11 feet
3. The 2" pipe out of the pump has a check valve installed
4. The pump turns on for maybe 2 seconds (just enough to pump water up the pipe several feet) and then shuts off. About 30 seconds later it does the same thing....over and over.

Before I go to the expense of a new pump: Could the problem be the check valve? If I do purchase a new pump, should I go with a 1/2 hp for that much lift?

pump is ''jacking off''

your check valve is either installed wrong or is stuck
look in your pit, when the pump turns off, is water coming back into the pit?

there are 2 different types of check valves
a swing check, can only be installed on a level horizontal line
a spring check can be installed vertical or horizontal

if it is the correct ck, it may be just stuck, knock the hell out of it. lol to unstick
or remove and clean,

if its pvc cut it out there is a "kit you can buy comes with a ball valve union and check valve....the one I bought is alittle loud they do make "quiet"check valves ...if you go to a plumbing supply house they will point you in the right direction
