New member - guess I was posting on Closed thread for a similar topic.

Shower control will flop to the right(full hot) and cook the wife sometimes.
Cheaper to repair than a divorce (I think).

Details:

Faceplate about 8 inches brand- SEPCO Si TEMP-RITE
Single handle Brass and Chrome
Stem is about .6 inches
Stem OD is about .5
Distance to Valve body to Stem about 3 inches
Casting has SA inside small circle on left side
Casting number - hard to read but 2ACM X2 - might be wrong on the M or X
Looks like an adjustment on the underside frontside(not shown in my pic)

Attaching some pics - reluctant to try to remove the valve and
take more pics due to stuck shut off valve.
Local supply houses have not heard of this brand.
I found a posting somewhere that suggest the valve is common
and not MFG by SEPCO.

Do the pics and above info help ID a replacement cartridge?
If I can remove the valve is it potentially rebuildable with simple O rings?

Thanks

Progress report - or lack thereof. Hoping a real plumber can tell me what I did wrong.

I made fixture to hold the valve body steady and found that a 1 inch wrench was needed.
Very slowly working the thread tight and loosen in small increments I was able to remove the
Stem Valve assembly.
It is a conventional flat rubber washer seal on then end so I went to ACE to try to find a replacement.
No luck so flipped the original washer over, cleaned valve body of calcium deposits and
applied plumbers grease appropriately.

I set the Stem height to the same dimension closed as when I removed it and reinstalled the
valve thinking this was a piece of cake fix.
But there must be something I dont know because the handle will only open about 45 degrees versus
360 (Closed to Cold to Warm to Hot to Scald).
Took it apart a few more times and measured and inspected but no luck.

Good news is I got dimensions and pictures to send to parts houses and it does not leak.
Bad news is the shower is now unusable (along with the wife).

Attaching some pics - this is beginning to look like a needle in the haystack :(

That valve is identical to a valve in the Boston mass area if the handle doesn't sta in place, the packing nut that's around the stem needs to me tightened

This is a Symmons valve (older model) and parts are available from Home Depot.
Spindle Part# TA-10-RP Home Depot SKU# 498444
Diverter (if tub/shower combo) Part# TA-25A-RP Home Depot Part# 290291
Volume Control (if shower only) Part# TA-25B Home Depot Part# 498511
Cap Assembly Part# T-12A-RP Home Depot Part# 498430

Note: If the cap assembly's stem seal is over-tightened, it will be hard to open/close the valve. If too loose, water will leak from the stem.
There are trim kit options for Symmons available also at Home Depot. The one most like the trim plate in your picture would be for the "Origins" but another version also exists under the "Allura" name which should fit your valve body as well and is a fancier version for about the same price. The spindle has the balancer inside if stuck it will not function properly. The stem should rattle when shaken.

You can find these parts online at: Homedepot.com.

Thanks for the Home Depot part numbers. !
The T12 cap assembly was a bit difficult to remove but
after cleaning the stem on Sunday and reviewing several hundred pics on a
parts house web site I was able to cross referencing back to Symmons
Temptrol valve body so the replacement parts info started to fall into place yesterday.

I am guessing SEPCO only made face plates back in the 90s or early 2000s.
It is solid brass and probably had a "gold plated" look so maybe that explains the choice.

I found this Utube for "how to change Symmons Temptrol" shower valve cartridge.
Unfortunately this was after I had spent many hours and finally
determined that the stem would not screw move in/out properly.

01

If the seats need replacing how feasible is that with the correct Temptrol tools?
I reinstalled it and it may be usable but have the replacement parts on order.

Hopefully I avoid cutting open the wall and valve body replacement.

Very fixable those symmons tools are better than another knock off symmons tool called the raven, symmons tools are plentiful and bullet proof if you have questions symmons tech are very good
