There's rust on an SMC shower tray (left from cans left on surface). Rust marks not removed by baking soda, Jif or 30 Seconds rust remover.

The manufacturer has apparently suggested trying Domestos level 8 corrosive in a blue bottle. I'm pretty certain bleach is a bad idea.

Does anyone have any other ideas? thanks

Thanks. I don't think Iron Out or Goo Gone are available where I live.

Does anyone know if SMC is easily stained?

The cans can't have been there for more than a few days, and one stain in particular is really bad. I'm guessing the cans had rust on them before I put them down, and I didn't realise.

Whink iron remover will take it out BUT, it contains hydrflouric acid. You could do a tiny test spot on the edge to see if it harms the finish. Never heard of Domestos but it looks like an acid based limescale remover. Same thing as limeaway or CLR?
Some toilet bowl cleaners are hydrochloric acid based which would be not as aggressive as Whink. At any rate, apply with q-tip just to the stain. If the manufacturer is suggesting acid based product it should be ok but I wouldn't leave it on for more than a minute or two.

Thnks all. Will suggest all the above to property owner.

Domestos is bleach. I thought bleach was bad for rust. It's the blue bottle that has been recommended.

Try about a 60/40 mix of white vinegar to water. If it will sit on the rust a couple of hours, it should remove the rust. I removed 50 years of rust from my basement drain's
grill by letting it sit in such a mix over night.
