Rheem vacuum relief valve

Brand New system. Drained down to install stops and shower valves. Filling back up and vacuum relief valve on marathon water heater leaking. Any ideas...thanks

Just remove it inspect the connection and install a new one

Shouldn't this be covered by rheem? It's never been used. The plumber didn't put a boiler drain by the main water valve so I had to drain the system from the water heater to install fixtures. I guess I'll have to call where I bought it from on Monday and ask. I don't want to call the plumber because of the terrible job he did. Thanks for the response.

rheem doesnt put vacuum relief valves on water heaters. They are "only" used when installing heaters on upper floors.

This water heater is in the basement. Can I just remove the valve and use a plug? I don't want this plumber back for anything.

let the pressure off and bleed it down below the valve and plug it. Dont plug the relief valve by accident.

Just found out rheem will void the warranty if no valve. I guess I just replace the valve on a brand new water heater. Thanks for all the help.

The vaccum releif is there incase the water main is siphoned due to the fire main in the street being used or a water
Main break

Thanks for all the help. I took the valve apart and found a tiny piece of solder stuck on the O ring preventing full closure. Everything good now.

I have a marathon in my home. Every time, including the initial start up that I’ve had to drain the heater and fill it back up the factory installed vacuum breaker spits and sputters while filling but stops once it’s up to pressure

But why? Why do we need all these things to protect us, but make our lives miserable. Things were a lot simpler back in the 50' s and I don't think think the death rate was much higher.

In mass they are required by code so the tank can't be siphoned and implode
Siphoned be water main break or fire nearby drawing on city water main
