Popping sound from hot water heater

My 40 gallon Rheem professional gas fired hot water heater makes a loud popping sound, only after running the hot water. Wondering what could cause this and of course how to fix it. The hot water heater is 3 years old and problem only started maybe a year ago.

It’s the sediment in your water flush it and put a sediment. Filter on the. Main before. The water. Heater

You have probably drained it already, but on the next drain- add this....to help get even more sediment off the bottom.

Put a hose cap on that drain.

Depending on your water content, it should be flushed regularily
