We're replacing a toilet, and have purchased a new (offset) flange. Unfortunately, the new flange (which is supposed to fit inside the 4" ABS pipe) is a loose fit. In my limited experience (mostly with PVC) the dry fit is nice and snug. So...

- Is this OK? Will the ABS cement fill a gap?
- What would a real plumber do in this situation?

Thanks!

I'm not sure I understand the question. I can easily insert the offset flange into the pipe up to the point where the offset itself impinges on the pipe. And even with it fully inserted, it's a loose fit. I'll take a video and see if that makes it more clear.

Here's the loose fit I was describing. I've got two thoughts at this point...
- I could make a bunch of ABS "sawdust" to mix with the ABS cement to make an ABS paste that will fill the gap.
- I could use one of the replacement flanges that has an expanding rubber gasket that mates to the inside of the pipe.

I measured the I.D. of the pipe at 4.01" and the O.D. of the flange at 3.95". So the difference is about .06" or 1/16".

What say the experts?
