We have a ranch home with the washing machine on one side of the home connected to the same drain pipe as the kitchen (dishwasher, garbage disposal, sink). We discovered a leak from this drain pipe and had a plumber come out and replace all the pipe connected to the drain to the kitchen but they did not replace the pipe to the washing machine.

Ever since they replaced the kitchen pipes, we have had a smell from our washing machine and sometimes from under the kitchen sink as well. The plumber is stumped by it. He has come back and replaced the vent but didn't change the problem.

The smell comes from the washing machine and sometimes also from under the kitchen sink when the water is draining out of the machine (not coming in). It is a sewer smell. It does not happen on the 2nd or later loads of wash but only after we have not used the washing machine for 2 days.

Any ideas?
