outside fawcet problem

My house has one of those newer outside fawcets that are supposed to prevent backflow or something like that.

All I know is that even new it sprays water on me when I shut it off.

Now it has broken so that when I turn it on no water comes out and it seems to be leaking inside the brick wall instead.

What has happened?

Replace the backflow device. They run about $5.00 at Lowes.
