This odd plastic tube that is protruding from a drain line started leaking. The drain line is some sort of metal. Can I remove the plastic tube and somehow patch the hole in the pipe? Thanks in advance!20221029_143120.jpg

Yes, You can take it out. I can't tell if its Cast Iron or Copper. You'll have to figure that out to seal it.

Thanks a lot! The pipe is definitely not cast iron and doesn't seem like copper. It's sounds like aluminum which I know isn't used in plumbing applications. Do you happen to know what the purpose of this small plastic pipe is...seems like a vent but I'm probably wrong. Thanks again!

I think that's pvc you could scrape away some of the paint to verify you could cut a few inches from each end and use 4 band stainless steel shielded no hub couplings
Great, I'll give that a try. Thanks for your help.
