I've just gotten the Navien 240A installed in the house we are building. I'd like to control the time the recirculation pump comes on, but it seems you have to get the remote control or the wifi and both don't seem to be ideal for what I'd like. Is it ok to just put a controllable outlet that I could schedule times for power to be applied to unit or could that lead to problems down the road with the unit. A controllable outlet would be a very economical way to schedule on/off times for the recirculation. thanks

I believe Navien still offers the "wired" control pad, which is not connected to Wi-Fi. You are probably better just to give them a direct call since they can be finicky.

Navien has had push-button option for kicking on the recirc pump.
Low voltage wiring and simple.
If you got the new NPE Series 2, the pushbutton control module is built in !
If you unfortunately got the one of the last of the old models, you have to purchase the module and install it (it is very simple to do).

Please be sure that your recirculation piping is fully insulated and if PEX, 3/4".
I have been very satisfied with Navien NPE units ever since they came out. They send warranty parts red label (fast) most of the time.

In warranty, if you can get an NSS (Navien Service Specialist), they have a required box of typical NPE parts.
The thing that has always been a minor part failure on their NPE units with recirculation is that the internal check valve starts sticking and needs to be swapped out.

Go with a rinnai. I’ve had bad experiences with Naviens tech suport.

They screwed around for a couple weeks sending parts when they knew they had problems with the heaters.......

Instead of having me check for their manufacturing and design defect FIRST they had me check for it AFTER every part they send failed to correct the problem.

So they cost the customer 3-4 service trips and 30-45 minutes on hold waiting for tech support each time. They also didn’t keep a history so each time I called I had to explain to each tech what had been done.

Go with a Rinnai.

Here is a pic of the POS
