Moving a washing machine

Laundry room has no laundry tub,however there is one in the garage. If the washer and dryer are moved to the garage, can the laundry tub drain be used for the tub and the washer? If not can the tub drain be used for the washer only ,without the laundry tub.
Assuming all drains are plumbed to code.

Laundry tub drain will likely be 1 1/2"...code for automatic washer is 2".
