Leak Problem...please help

We have a single knob, turn style shower knob. The faucet has been leaking for weeks, but has recently gotten worse, and now hot water instead of cold. We tore the knob fixture apart, installed a replacement scald kit, and it still leaks hot water, though not as badly. We noticed while we had the main water turned off, that hot water still leaked from the main water supply, and from the faucet. We are at a loss...

Post a photo of your shower valve or what brand is it ? You might have a piece of the old cartridge or some debris lodge inside the valve body. Remove the cartridge and look inside the valve body with a flash light.
 
Without pictures it is impossible to assist. I am sure your problem has a common, straightforward solution. If you share more information with us we may be able to assist.
 
How old is your water heater? You could have pieces of dip tube in the hot port of valve
