Currently Remodeling my bathroom and I'm first starting on the shower faucet. I want to reuse my previous (which is pretty new)faucet, but I want to remove the down spout for the tub. Im going to use pex to do this since it's easier. Is it okay to cap off the down spout opening on the shower valve with a piece of PEX and a PEX cap?

Please don't cheap out on this bathroom remodel! I would recommend purchasing a "shower only" valve.
