My rationale for portable generator was to make sure that during prolonged power outage (lasting more than a day), my pipes don't burst and the refrigerator/freezer keep running. I have expirienced four day outage during one late summer. No AC, but even in Houston, I survived. I would have enjoyed the AC but spending 15k is not in my budget.
