I have a dripping two-handle faucet, and I'm trying to replace the hot cartridge.

When I pull up using the brownish part, nothing budges. When I remove the brownish part (it's screwed to the cartridge), I see that the stem is recessed. I've tried to pull it up using needle nose pliers, but no luck. Any idea how to remove it?

Bonus question: does anyone happen to know what brand faucet this is? It's around 25 years old.

Thanks all in advance.

That’s a Moen Monticello and it has an internal cartridge nut that uses a tool made by moen to remove it. Once the cartridge nut is unscrewed using the tool the cartridge gets yanked out. I drive a screw into the top of the cartridge to give me something to grab.

Google : Moen internal cartridge nut tool
