How to remove old shower cartridge

Hi

I'm trying to take off my old shower cartridge because it's leaking.
I took of some cover materials and now I see this cartridge but I can't proceed from here.

Please give me an instruction to take off this old cartridge.

That’s a Delta 1700.

The brass ring is suppose to unscrew counterclockwise.

They have to be carefully cut off quite often. You have to be careful or you’ll ruin the entire valve.

I usually don’t cut through the ring but rather deeply score it then insert a flat screwdriver and twist. This breaks the ring so it will unscrew.
