Hi. I have a leaking showerhead (won't shut off completely) and think I need to replace the stem or gasket/washer. But when I took the handle off-the flange is attached behind the wall. Do I need to use a deep socket or can the flange come off somehow? I hope the original builder (25 years old) didn't tile it behind the wall. Any idea what brand? Thanks!

that is an Old Moen 2 handle Valve.
Look for a Moen 1248 cartridge

That chrome tube should pull off. look inside tube and see if you see any fine threads. if not it should pull off.

That valve had a defective design. Surprised it made it all these yrs.

There maybe and extension to the cartridge inside the brass bonnet.

I looked for a diagram but could not find one. good luck.
