Hi there,

I'm having some real trouble with installing the trim kit for a Moen Voss shower-only setup.

First off, yes, the rough-in was sitting for a while so I did clean the valve, flush it, clean it again, re-grease and install a new cartridge.

The problem I'm having is that when I try to secure the handle adapter to the cartridge, once it gets tight the water starts to pour out of the shower spout.

I can back it off and install the handle, but one of two things happen. 1) the handle is loose and the weight of it pulls the cartridge out and water starts to flow or, 2) you can pull the handle out to start flow, but once you depress the handle the water continues to flow until you take off the handle and depress the cartridge.

Is my diverter too deep in the wall? How am I supposed to tighten the handle adapter down without the water turning on?

Any help is appreciated.

Looks like it’s roughed in too deep.

Here are the install instructions. Check your steps.

Moen probably makes a 1” extension kit. Call them.....
