Flange and nipple reinstall

I just replaced the hot side and diverter stems of my price pfister 3 handle shower. The stems have a thread that the nipple screws onto. The nipple covers from inside the flange to inside the handle. The flange is caulked to the tub surround. Do i need to caulk the nipple to the flange or some other method to prevent seeping water from going into the wall?

I have not ever seen water seep through that juncture. As long as it is a tight fit, you should be OK.
