Very simple question. My bathtub diverter spout does not stop waterflow when pulled up. I am trying to replace it. Since I don't see an Allen key screw underneath, it looks like a half-inch NPT connection. But I am unable to unscrew the spout even with considerable force. What could be the problem? Can I keep on increasing the force without risk of causing other damage? Thanks.

Don’t twist the copper off in the wall. It’s not hard to do.

Now, I need to replace just the worn-out washer or the whole spout. Trying homedepot/lowe's/amazon to see if I can get just the washer. Thanks a ton!

agree.....just get e new spout. if you rebuild it, it may be pitted and new parts may still give you a trickle leak...they're cheap
