The dishwasher drain under my kitchen sink used to be routed to a standpipe as shown in the image below.

I have since rerouted the dishwasher drain to the garbage disposal via the high-loop method and capped off the now-unused standpipe.

I was wondering why the dishwasher was plumbed into a separate standpipe in the first place???

Maybe local code required an air gap.

Or maybe there was no disposal, in the past.

I hope your actual setup didn’t have the electrical receptacle right under the standpipe.

Gee, what could go wrong with that? ⚡😱

Even if gfci, it could flood and short out.

Some people don't do it that way because if the disposal is clogged it will back up into the sink another way it's done is using a dishwasher tee after the disposal 90
