There are essentially 4 kinds of faucets. There may be various designs and styles available in each type. Designs also vary according to the brand you choose. Cartridge faucets are seen to be one of the best. Ball faucets are also great for bathroom and kitchen sinks.

If you visit a well-maintained local faucet store, you can find hundreds of different types of faucets. But faucets essentially are categorized in 4 different sections. These categories are not based on the design or the style of the faucet but the functions it performs and what goes into the maintenance of the faucet from time to time. Although your plumber can tell you all about faucets but one should be aware of the facts.

The four types of faucets are as follows:
1. Compression faucets:
It is the oldest kind of faucet. If your faucets look old, assume that they are compression faucets. All of the others have been recently developed. These have different handles for both hot and cold water. A rubber seat washer is attached to the stem which is the most crucial aspect of these kinds of faucets.

2. Disc Faucets:
Disc faucets are more contemporary. They are found in two types: one or two handles. The one which has only one handle has 3 seal that takes care of the water supply. On the other hand, the one which has 2 handles; has only one seal to regulate the water supply.

3. Ball Faucets:
Ball faucets do not have a washer. They were the first of their kind. Here, a rotating ball is used in place of a seal. These are used in kitchens and bathrooms. Their ability to move between two basins makes them very popular in the latest homes or kitchens. They are found to have only one handle.

4. Cartridge Faucets:
Cartridge faucets neither use rotating balls nor washers. They use a movable cartridge to regulate the water supply. This cartridge moves up and down to allow or stop water supply. The temperature can be easily adjusted since there are different handles for hot and cold water. These are the most popular because they do not break down easily and have the longest life span.

If you are looking for the right kind of faucet for your home, these descriptions should be able to help you in a large way.

Thanks
