I am considering installing a Delta shower/tub direct to stud surround kit.

My question can i install the surround over cement board? Does that make sense in order to water proof the area? If not, do I need to put in insulation with a vapor barrier? My studs are metal and the location of my home is South Florida. I have the bathroom gutted down to the studs at this point.

you have a model # ?? sometimes you can find installation instructions online.

But most all surround systems are made to install directly to the stud. some you can ad a layer of board on wall except where you have to nail. But this is done to make them more quitter so the rest of the family can't hear you sing and fart in the shower. As for water proofing ,if installed right, you should not need to worry about it. use standard insulation or what ever you think is best.
