Clogged tub

I have a clogged bathtub. I'm a production welder so after every shower I take, there is a very good amount of of metal dust collected at the bottom of my tub. We'll now it has clogged my tub to the point I have to use some type of drain cleaner. I want to use some type of acid seeing as how the clog is mostly metal dust. My tub is some sort of plastic I assume. I live in an apartment, nothing fancy. Will the acid do anything drastic to my tub?

It needs physical snaking.

Fill the tub, then start it draining and use a plunger to ‘shake’ the water in the drain and see if you can’t get it past the trap.

We have this problem with beach sand, and the above solution works well.

Indeed, acid drain cleaners (lye) will work only on organic substances, metal is inorganic...

1st thing I do when walking into a clogged tub is
Turn the water on in the bath sink fill the sink and drain it, of the water shows up in the tub you would snake it thru the sink trap
