Hello. My sewer recently backed up into my sinks. I was wondering if there was a clear (or somewhat transparent) 4 inch Sch 40 PVC cleanout plug on the market, so that I could see when the water in the pipe started to back up, so that I would have advanced warning to proactively snake the pipe heading towards the street main. It would be similar to this:

There is a company here in California that makes and supplies it but it is very expensive. I can ask a buddy tomorrow what the name of it was. I haven't been there in several years.

I don't know how clear it would stay or if it would even help in your case.

Did we come up with an answer for this? I searched extensively for a clear PVC 3" cleanout plug with no luck... any help?

Thanks!

did you check if it is astm certified ?

remember, the internet has all kinds of cool stuff, but just because its on the net does not mean you can legally use it.

 ...no...I didn't...

I a$$-u-med by the description and manufacturer it was acceptable for potable water...

I just found this- https://www.clearpvcpipe.com/media/additional/ClearPVCspecs.pdf

THANX for the call-out and double check me as I do not want to cause any harm and/or misinformation...

ADDENDUM-

ASTM, founded in 1898 as the American Society of the International Association for Testing and Materials, predates other standards organizations such as BSI (1901), IEC (1906), DIN (1917), ANSI (1918), AFNOR (1926), and ISO (1947).
