We own a 1973 home with copper water lines(city service and home). We have water shut off sensors throughout the house. Went a sensor is activated..two drops of water…it will automatically shut off our main water supply valve. Great protection. We also have our home monitored for heat, water, etc.
Issue is the city water line that comes in from outside through concrete floor to the main home shut off valve…approx 2’. If that portion bursts or springs a leak, the city or a plumber must shut the street valve to stop the flow. The time needed to get the city or plumber out could result in a great deal of damage to a finished basement.
I just learned pipe burst tape can be used to provide a temporary fix until a professional fix can be completed.
Questions. Has anyone dealt with this concern in their home? Would it make sense to pre-tape this portion of pipe as added protection?

Thanks

Install a floor drain is about the best you can do. I wouldn’t do anything.

You could update that two ft. section; add a valve right at the entry point and freshen up the section with new, copper type L, which is thick and ought to outlast two generations.
