I have a 22-year-old oil fired Aero water heater which is working well yet has never had the anode rod changed. Should I change it now or is the risk of removal greater than the risk of just leaving it in place and forgetting about it? All thoughts on this matter are greatly appreciated.

David,

John said it plain and simple. Don't touch it. If you start messing with the components, more than likely you will need to replace it.

If it's not broke , don't fix it and by golly don't touch it!

Does anyone know what size socket it is, I'm looking to pull some on Lochinvar shields model SNR200-125.

I have heard three different sizes from lochinvar 1-1/8", 1-1/16", 1" all of them are too small. I have also been told that there is not an anode in these units that it's just a plug.
