Yes, this is a plumbing question! Sort of...

We have to open up our entire sewer line by cutting a trench through our slab basement floor. The cement guy says he will hang plastic sheeting and use a vacuum (not sure if it is a wet vacuum or not...).

I'm worried about cement dust getting into our freezer compressor (or whatever it is called). Even though it will be outside of the plastic sheeting I know there will be a lot of dust that will get through and certainly when they take down the sheeting.

Does anyone have a recommendation of how to protect the freezer from the dust? Does it have to be removed from the space until the slab is re-poured and the final cleanup is done?

Someone suggested a mattress cover just slipped over the top and pulled down. Would that work or restrict the air flow too much?

Thanks
AnnC.

The compressor is hermetically sealed which means nothing can get into it. If you're so worried just make sure your guy that's cutting up the concrete actually does what he said he's going to do and properly block off the space so no dust escapes. Or move the freezer out of the area

You most likely mean condenser coil not compressor. It needs to be cleaned once a year anyway so clean it after they're done.

Along with cleaning it you can turn the unit off for a fee hours while work oh s being done.

Thank you to everyone for your responses. We will see if we can move the freezer away from the major repair space and also unplug it when the cement dust is flying.
