Looking at a house for sale and it has alternating drain fields . I have never seen this before. A quick search suggests that it almost always indicates that there was a problem with one leach field and another was added.
Is this true?

Home owner also states that the back yard where the fields are gets very wet when it rains and water stands for a day or two after. Wouldn't this affect leach field performance?

TIA

Alternating fields could be specified by the authority.

Standing water over your field lines is not good.

I did know a house that had two septic systems, one for each bathrooms, the thinking was that is one blocked up you could switch to the other, These were in the days that thing like this were cheap.
