AAV location for toilet

I need to install an AAV for a toilet vent. Does it have to be installed directly between the p trap and the 3” main drain line or can it be installed on a 2” line off to the side which used to be connected to the roof vent but can’t be anymore?

Not sure what you’re looking to do exactly, but an AAV should not be used for a toilet and the toilet trap is internal, it does not get an external trap.
